Daily Report

Thursday was another warm and sunny day with the temperature reaching into the upper 70's. As a cold front moves through on Friday cooler temperatures are expected along with sunny conditions as we head into the weekend. Yesterday depending on who we spoke with and where they fished we got mixed reports from anglers. Some anglers were able to land a few kings in the lower end of the river, while others had no success at all. A couple anglers we spoke with who fished the mid to upper end of the river were able to enjoy some solitude and found a few kings holding in some of the deeper holes while having success. With the bright and sunny conditions, the best action continues to be first thing in the morning before the sun hits the water or later in the afternoon once the sun is off the water. During the middle of the day the combination of low water, along with warm and sunny conditions the fish seem to be holding in the deeper holes and larger runs. 

The NYS DEC has Closed By Emergency Order The Lower Fly Fishing Catch & Release Area from September 15th through October 31st, 2025. Drought conditions have produced low and warm water conditions, therefore the Lower Fly Fishing Area will remain closed in order to help ensure an adequate Pacific salmon egg take at the Salmon River Hatchery during the fall 2025 spawning season. Brookfield, in consultation with the New York State DEC, have decided to continue with the current 185 cfs base flow out of Lighthouse Hill for the beginning of September due to ongoing drought conditions coupled with low reservoir levels. This lowered base flow will remain reduced until the reservoir recovers to normal historic elevations for this time of year.
