Daily Report

Tuesday was another warm and sunny day with the temperature reaching into the 70's. During the night the temperature did drop down into the 40's and we will have a brief cool down for Wednesday and Thusrday, then the temperature will warm back up for the upcoming weekend. Yesterday some of the anglers we spoke with who fished the lower end of the river reported getting into mostly kings along with a few cohos. First thing in the morning and late in the day continues to produce the best action, while mid day the fish seem to be holding in the deeper holes and moving mostly at night. The areas in the lower end of the river that are producing the most action are also getting the most fishing pressure, such as Ballpark, Town Pool, Staircase, Black Hole and DSR.   In the mid to upper section of river, anglers reported fish holding in the deeper holes such as Sportsman Pool, Trestle Pool and Schoolhouse. 

The NYS DEC has Closed By Emergency Order The Lower Fly Fishing Catch & Release Area from September 15th through October 31st, 2025. Drought conditions have produced low and warm water conditions, therefore the Lower Fly Fishing Area will remain closed in order to help ensure an adequate Pacific salmon egg take at the Salmon River Hatchery during the fall 2025 spawning season. Brookfield, in consultation with the New York State DEC, have decided to continue with the current 185 cfs base flow out of Lighthouse Hill for the beginning of September due to ongoing drought conditions coupled with low reservoir levels. This lowered base flow will remain reduced until the reservoir recovers to normal historic elevations for this time of year.
