Daily Report

Thursday was another dry day with mostly sunny and calm conditions and the temperature reached into the mid 40's. The release from the dam has been 1800cfs and Pineville gauge is reading around 2050cfs, the water level is expected to come down for the weekend.  Despite the recent high water, the anglers who are in town have been making the most of conditions here on the main river or in some of the smaller local tributaries.  The good news is that dry conditions are expected over the next couple of days with the temperature gradually warming up.  Yesterday was another day of mixed reports from anglers depending on where they fished and experience level. Some groups got into steelhead and knew exactly where to find fish in the high water, while others struggled and had a tough time.  For those anglers who are fly fishing, this time of year a variety of techniques can be effective, whether you like to swing streamers with sinking leaders, fish egg patterns under a strike indicator or dead drift them, they all can proudce results depending on the day.  For those anglers who are float fishing or bottom bouncing, egg sacs or beads have produced the best results. 

Suggested patterns:

Egg patterns: Glo-bugs, estaz eggs, sucker spawn, steelie omelet in size 6-10.

Streamers: Krystal buggers, egg sucking leeches, woolly buggers in size 4-8.

Nymphs: Rubber legged stones, estaz stones, steelhead hammer, steak-n-eggs in size 6-10.
