On Friday the temperature was around 30 degrees with scattered lake effect snow, but with the very high winds the feel like temperature was only in the teens. We got just a couple inches of snow here at the shop with no major accumulation, the bulk of the higher amounts of lake effect snow were south and east of us. The release from the dam was 750cfs and Pineville gauge is around 1040cfs. In the upper end of the river between Altmar and Pineville depending on the day anglers have been getting into steelhead in both of the fly zones, below the Altmar bridge, Schoolhouse, Wire Hole, Trestle Pool and Pineville area. In the mid to lower end of the river anglers have been getting into steelhead in the normal areas such as Sportsman Pool area, RT2A, Staircase, Longbridge, Black Hole and the DSR. For those anglers who are fly fishing, this time of year a variety of techniques can be effective, whether you like to swing streamers with sinking leaders, fish egg patterns under a strike indicator or dead drift nymphs, they all can proudce results depending on the day. For those anglers who are float fishing or bottom bouncing, egg sacs or beads have produced the best results.
