Daily Report
December 08 2025
On Sunday we had cloudy and calm conditions with scattered lake effect snow showers in the afternoon while picking up a couple inches of new snow. Sunday night the temperature dropped into the single digits and as of this morning slush was a factor in the lower end of the river. Sunny and cold conditions are expected as we head through the day on Monday. Yesterday the few anglers we spoke with reported having a very good day in the lower end of the river. The release from the dam was 750cfs and as of this morning Pineville gauge is around 953cfs. In the upper end of the river between Altmar and Pineville depending on the day anglers have been getting into steelhead in the Lower Fly Zone, below the Altmar bridge, Schoolhouse, Wire Hole, Trestle Pool and Pineville area. In the mid to lower end of the river anglers have been getting into steelhead in the normal areas such as Sportsman Pool area, RT2A, Staircase, Longbridge, Black Hole and the DSR. For those anglers who are fly fishing, anglers have had success dead drifting with nymphs, using egg patterns under a strike indicator or swinging small streamers with sink tips. For those anglers who are float fishing or bottom bouncing, egg sacs or beads have produced the best results.
Suggested patterns:
Egg patterns: Glo-bugs, estaz eggs, sucker spawn, steelie omelet in size 6-10.
Streamers: Krystal buggers, egg sucking leeches, woolly buggers in size 4-8.
Nymphs: Rubber legged stones, estaz stones, steelhead hammer, steak-n-eggs in size 6-10.
