Daily Report

February 07 2026

Over the weekend were expected to have the coldest weather of the season so far this winter. The day time temperature will be near zero and with the wind chill factor the temperature will reach well below zero, an extreme cold warning has been issued for our area. The last couple of days the release from the dam has been 500cfs. Prior to the artic blast, the few anglers we have spoken with reported getting into steelhead in the upper section of river in Altmar. The least amount of slush ice and shelf ice will be in the upper end of the river between Altmar and Pineville. If you plan on fishing anglers should focus on the normal winter holding areas such as Lower Fly Zone, below the Altmar bridge, Schoolhouse, Wire Hole, Trestle Pool and Pineville. For those anglers who are fly fishing, anglers have had success dead drifting with nymphs, using egg patterns under a strike indicator or swinging small streamers with sink tips. For those anglers who are float fishing or bottom bouncing, egg sacs or beads have produced the best results.

Suggested patterns:

Egg patterns: Glo-bugs, estaz eggs, sucker spawn, steelie omelet in size 6-10.

Streamers: Krystal buggers, egg sucking leeches, woolly buggers in size 6-10.

Nymphs: Prince nymphs, Copper John's, Hare's ear, Rubber legged stones, Wiggle stones, estaz stones, steelhead hammer, steak-n-eggs in size 8-10.
