Daily Report

February 09 2026

On Monday the morning temperature started out well below zero, but with blue skies and plenty of sunshine the temperature reached into the mid teens in the afternoon. The good news is that the temperature will warm up as we head through the week.  After several weeks of teens, single digits and below zero, the temperature reaching near 30 degrees is going to feel like a heat wave. With the recent deep freeze the least amount of slush ice and shelf ice will be in the upper end of the river between Altmar and Pineville. If you plan on fishing anglers should focus on the normal winter holding areas such as Lower Fly Zone, below the Altmar bridge, Schoolhouse, Wire Hole, Trestle Pool and Pineville. For those anglers who are fly fishing, anglers have had success dead drifting with nymphs, using egg patterns under a strike indicator or swinging small streamers with sink tips. For those anglers who are float fishing or bottom bouncing, egg sacs or beads have produced the best results.

Suggested patterns:

Egg patterns: Glo-bugs, estaz eggs, sucker spawn, steelie omelet in size 6-10.

Streamers: Krystal buggers, egg sucking leeches, woolly buggers in size 6-10.

Nymphs: Prince nymphs, Copper John's, Hare's ear, Rubber legged stones, Wiggle stones, estaz stones, steelhead hammer, steak-n-eggs in size 8-10.
