water-temp Water Temp 70F

Daily Report

February 17 2026

Monday was another mild day with mostly cloudy conditions and the temperature reached into the upper 30's. The mild conditions are expected to continue over the next couple of days along with some mixed precipitation. Now that the temp's have warmed up the shelf ice in the lower end of the river is breaking up and anglers should use extra caution if they plan on fishing that section of river. In the upper end of the river between Altmar and Pineville, shelf ice has not been a factor. The normal winter holding areas such as Lower Fly Zone, below the Altmar bridge, Schoolhouse, Wire Hole, Ellis Cove, Bovines, Trestle Pool and Pineville have all produced action depending on the day.  For those anglers who are fly fishing, anglers have had success dead drifting with nymphs, using egg patterns under a strike indicator or swinging small streamers with sink tips. For those anglers who are float fishing or bottom bouncing, egg sacs or beads have produced the best results.

Suggested patterns:

Egg patterns: Glo-bugs, estaz eggs, sucker spawn, steelie omelet in size 6-10.

Streamers: Krystal buggers, egg sucking leeches, woolly buggers in size 6-10.

Nymphs: Prince nymphs, Copper John's, Hare's ear, Rubber legged stones, Wiggle stones, estaz stones, steelhead hammer, steak-n-eggs in size 8-10.
