Thursday was another day of cloudy and calm conditions with the temperature reaching into the mid 40's in the afternoon. We has some scattered rain showers move thru later in the afternoon and into the evening. As we head into the weekend a significant warming trend is expected for Saturday and into early next week with the temperature reaching 60 degrees. The last few days the dam release has been 1200cfs and the Pineville gauge is around 1450cfs. In the mid to upper end of the river the normal winter holding areas such as Lower Fly Zone, below the Altmar bridge, Schoolhouse, Wire Hole, Ellis Cove, Bovines, Trestle Pool, Pineville and Sportsman Pool have all produced action depending on the day. In the lower end of the river depending on the day, the Town Pool, Longbridge/Staircase, Black Hole and DSR have all produced results. For those anglers who are fly fishing, anglers have had success dead drifting with nymphs, using egg patterns under a strike indicator or swinging small streamers with sink tips. For those anglers who are float fishing or bottom bouncing, egg sacs or beads have produced the best results.
Suggested patterns:
Egg patterns: Glo-bugs, estaz eggs, sucker spawn, steelie omelet in size 6-10.
Streamers: Krystal buggers, egg sucking leeches, beadhead woolly buggers in size 6-10.
Nymphs: Prince nymphs, Copper John's, Hare's ear, Rubber legged stones, Wiggle stones, estaz stones, steelhead hammer, steak-n-eggs in size 8-10.
