On Monday we had blue skies with plenty of sunshine and the temperature reached into the 70's. The release from the dam is 350cfs and Pineville gauge was reading around 488cfs as of this morning. We currently have drop backs scattered throughout the river from top to bottom, the upper end of the river still has some spawning steelhead and with the water temperature on the rise, smallmouth bass have started showing up in the lower end of the DSR. Yesterday the majority of anglers we spoke with who fished the lower end of the river reported having a very good day with plenty of drop back action. Whether your walking or in a drift boat, covering lots of the water has been the key to drop back success. With the recent drop in water level, the deeper holes and larger runs have been producing the best action. For those anglers who are fly fishing, swinging streamers with sinking leaders or dead drifting with egg patterns has produced steady results. For those anglers who are bottom bouncing or float fishing, egg sacs, beads and pink worms have all produced steady results.
