December 17 2018
On Monday the temperature was in the 30's along with windy conditions and in the afternoon we had a mix of drizzle and sleet. We spoke with a good number of anglers and they reported that the river was not nearly as crowded as over the weekend. The majority of them said they had a good day and the best reports came from the mid to upper end of the river. Anglers reported getting into a mix of fresh chrome as well as some darker colored up fish. With the low water conditions the fish have been holding in and around the deeper holes and larger runs. Anglers who were float fishing or bottom bouncing had success with pink and blue egg sacs, beads or pink worms. For those anglers who are fly fishing dead drifting with nymphs, indicator fishing with egg patterns or swinging streamers with sinking leaders have all produced results. The most productive patterns have been black stoneflies, wiggle stones, steelhead stones, sucker spawn, glo-bugs, woolly buggers and leeches.
Just wanted to let anglers know that moving forward the new website for checking on the Salmon River water conditions is www.safewaters.com. Enter Altmar for the Salmon River water levels.
The shop and motel will be closed on December 24th & 25th.
