January 07 2019
On Monday the temperature started out in the single digits, but in the afternoon it reached into the 20's along with windy conditions. In the morning slush ice was a factor in the lower end of the river but cleared around mid day. The few anglers we spoke with reported having a good day in the upper end of the river between Altmar and Pineville. Anglers who were float fishing had the most success with blue egg sacs. Anglers who were fly fishing had the most success with egg patterns under a strike indicator or dead drifting with nymphs. The most productive patterns were wiggle stones, steak-n-eggs, infected pheasant tails, rusher nymphs, black stones, steelhead hammer and woolly buggers.
