Sunday was another mild day especially for this time of year with the temperature reaching near 40 degrees once again. Over the weekend the water level came down a little which increased the number of anglers getting out on the water and taking advantage of conditions. The upper and lower end of the river had the most fishing pressure with the majority of anglers between Altmar and Ellis Cove in the upper end and Town pool to the DSR in the lower end of the river. The mid section of river would be a good choice if your looking for some solitude. The drift boats have been taking advantage of the conditions and covering lots of water. We currently have fish spread out in the river from top to bottom with a mix of fresh fish entering the river and fish holding in the normal winter areas. Anglers who are fly fishing have been having the most success dead drifting with nymphs and small streamers or indicator fishing with egg patterns. For those anglers who are bottom bouncing or float fishing, pink and blue egg sacs, beads, marabou jigs and pink worms have all produced results.
Suggested patterns:
Nymphs; Steelhead Hammer, Rusher nymphs, Prince nymphs, Rubber legged stones, Beadhead stones, Pheasant tails.
Eggs; Sucker spawn, Estaz eggs, Steelie Omelette, Glo-bugs, Steak-n-eggs.
Streamers; Woolly buggers, Conehead muddlers, Egg sucking leeches, Zonkers, Stonefly buggers.
