Daily Report

March 22 2023

Tuesday was another mild day with dry and stable conditions, we had a mix of sun and clouds along with the temperature reaching into the upper 40's. With melting snow coming off the Tug Hill and rain in the forecast the release from the dam has been increased which is normal for this time of year. With the higher water conditions the fish should be holding along the softer edges and inside seams. The best action has been in the upper end of the river between Altmar and Pineville. The Lower Fly Fishing Area has been producing steady action on a daily basis, but is also getting the most attention.  In the mid to lower end of the river anglers who are covering lots of water have been able to get into a few fish as well. For those anglers who are fly fishing, dead drifting with nymphs or small streamers and egg patterns under a strike indicator has produced the best results. For those anglers who are bottom bouncing or float fishing, pink and blue egg sacs, trout beads, pink worms and marabou jigs have all produced results depending on the day.

Suggested patterns:

Nymphs;  Steelhead Hammer, Rusher nymphs, Prince nymphs, Rubber legged stones, Beadhead stones, Pheasant tails, Soft hackles.

Eggs; Sucker spawn, Estaz eggs, Steelie Omelette, Glo-bugs, Steak-n-eggs.

Streamers; Woolly buggers, Conehead muddlers, Egg sucking leeches, Zonkers, Stonefly buggers.
