Daily Report

April 01 2023

Late Friday night we had steady rain showers move through our area. More showers are expected for later in the day on Saturday with the temperature reaching into the 60's along with windy conditions. With the recent rain it's no surprise the river is running at a high level. The drift boat guides have been taking advantage of the high water conditions and floating throughout the river, while the majority of bank anglers have been fishing the upper end of the river between Altmar and Pineville. We currently have fish throughout the river and were getting into the transition period of the spring season. You have the possibility of few new fish still coming in, you have the majority of fish that came into the river with the higher flows throughout the winter getting ready to spawn or currently spawning, then you have the fish that have already completed the spawning process and are dropping back to the lake. The best action has been in the upper end of the river between Altmar and Pineville. The Lower Fly Fishing Area has been producing steady action on a daily basis, but is also getting the most attention.  In the mid to lower end of the river anglers who are covering lots of water have been able to get into a few fish as well. For those anglers who are fly fishing, dead drifting with nymphs or small streamers and egg patterns under a strike indicator has produced the best results. For those anglers who are bottom bouncing or float fishing, pink and blue egg sacs, trout beads, pink worms and marabou jigs have all produced results depending on the day.

Suggested patterns:

Nymphs;  Steelhead Hammer, Rusher nymphs, Prince nymphs, Rubber legged stones, Beadhead stones, Pheasant tails, Soft hackles.

Eggs; Sucker spawn, Estaz eggs, Steelie Omelette, Glo-bugs, Steak-n-eggs.

Streamers; Woolly buggers, Conehead muddlers, Egg sucking leeches, Zonkers, Stonefly buggers.
