These are Ostrich Plumes and the hackle fibers look much like an Ostrich Quill hackle, only these are much shorter, say, usually 2Õ to 4Ó long. We find that we can wind most of these short Spey Plums directly on hook shafts, Waddington Shanks, or tubes. We also use hackle fibers from plumes with thick centers with our Petitjean magic Tool.
