Over the last couple of days not many anglers have been fishing, but the few anglers who are on the water have been fishing the upper end of the river between Altmar and Pineville. With the low water conditions the fish have been holding in and around the deeper holes and larger runs. The most productive areas have been the Lower Fly Zone, below the Altmar bridge, Schoolhouse Pool, Wire Hole, Ellis Cove, Trestle Pool, Refrigerator, Pineville and Ace in the Hole. Fly fishing anglers have been doing well in the Lower Fly Zone while dead drifting with nymphs or indicator fishing with single egg patterns. Anglers who are float fishing have had the most success with blue or pink egg sacs, beads and pink worms. With overnight temperatures in the single digits, slush ice is a factor in the lower end of the river in the morning, with that being said the most fishable water will be in the upper end of the river between Altmar and Pineville.
