Thursday was another cold day along with windy conditions and despite plenty of sunshine the temperature was only in the mid 30's. Over the last couple of days we've had below average temperatures for this time of year but mild conditions are expected for the upcoming weekend. The water level has been high which is normal for this time of year, but the river is fishable and angles are fishing. The drift boats have been taking advantage of the high water conditions and covering lots of water while floating most of the river. The majority of bank anglers are focussing on the upper end of the river between Altmar and Pineville. Anglers have reported getting into fish on a daily basis both in the Upper & Lower Fly Zone. In the lower end of the river anglers have been getting into mostly drop backs. For those anglers who are not comfortable with the higher water, some of the smaller local tributaries can provide another option. The most productive patterns have been wiggles stones, steak-n-eggs, woolly buggers, egg sucking leeches, steelhead stones, estaz eggs and sucker spawn. For those anglers who are bottom bouncing or float fishing egg sacs, beads, pink worms and jigs have all produced steady results.
