On Sunday we picked up another 6 inches of lake effect snow. Even though the temperature only reached into the mid 20's, it felt almost balmy compared to the previous few days and it gave anglers a small window of opportunity to get out on the water. Overall the water level and temperatures continue to be up and down. Over the weekend the water level was up and now its back down, yesterday the temperature broke into the 20's and early this morning it was below zero again. With slush ice being a factor in the lower end of the river, the few anglers we spoke with over the weekend reported getting into some fish in Altmar. Anglers reported having action in the normal winter holding areas, such as the Lower Fly Zone, Schoolhouse Pool and Wire Hole. Anglers who were fly fishing had the most success dead drifting with nymphs or indicator fishing with egg patterns. Anglers who were bottom bouncing or float fishing had the most success with pink and blue egg sacs.
With the temperautre in the single digits and below zero with the wind chill factor we have adjusted the shop hours. The shop will be opening at 9:00AM and closing at 5:00PM.
