On Wednesday we had steady rain showers in the morning with the temperature in the 40's and in the afternoon we had windy conditions with the temperature reaching into the mid 50's. Over the last couple of days anglers have been getting into a mix of drop backs, fish that are still spawning and smallmouth bass. In the lower end of the river anglers are covering lots of water and getting into drop backs as well as smallmouth bass. The mid to upper end of the river has been a mix of drop backs and fish that are still spawning in the gravel areas. The drop backs are generally suspended in the water column and like to hold in the head and tailouts of the bigger holes and larger runs. In the lower end of the river the smallmouth bass like to hold in the slow, soft water of the deeper holes and larger runs. Anglers who are fly fishing have had the most success swinging streamers with sinking leaders. The most productive patterns have been woolly buggers in black, olive, brown, grizzly or white, egg sucking leeches in black or purple, zonkers in black, olive and white, conehead muddlers in olive, natural and brown. For those anglers who are bottom bouncing or float fishing, pink and blue egg sacs, beads and pink worms continue to produce results.
