Daily Report

December 19 2021

The mild weather was nice while it lasted but winter conditions have arrived making it actually feel like steelhead season. Over the weekend we had scattered lake effect snow showers with the temperature holding below freezing.  After running at a high level for the last several weeks, the water level has finally come down. The bank anglers seem to be happy now that it's easier for them to move around, not so much for the anglers with drift boats, either way it's always challenging keeping everyone happy. Now that the water level has come down anglers can expect the fish to be holding in and around the deeper holes and larger runs in the normal winter holding areas. Yesterday in the lower end of the river the DSR reported that anglers got into a mix of fresh and colored up fish in small to average size. In the upper end of the river anglers reported much of the same. Anglers who were fly fishing had the most success dead drifting with nymphs or indicator fishing with egg patterns. The anglers who were bottom bouncing or float fishing had the most success with pink and blue egg sacs, beads and pink worms.
